MWC 2013 - Was it worth it?5 Mar 2013
A week after MWC in Barcelona, professionals from the mobile industry still strike a balance between what they have achieved like new contacts, clients, partners and what they could have done more if the conditions were better.
Mad-Adz as a premium mobile ad platform also attended the congress, met some new partners, saw some fascinating mobile innovations and was part of the common challenges that all the participants actually faced for several days.
Most critics have written bunch of articles about those fascinating gadgets that push the industry to another level and this really is the accent of such an event BUT this is not what people still discuss a week later! Mad-Adz Team has been an attendee for already several years in a row and this time our partners share more negative impressions than ever! Were all their issues worth it ?
The reason for all problems, as we already know, is the transition from the old venue to the new one – logically, this main change had both good and bad sides. For us, the problems it actually caused were more serious than the benefits we got like more space, for example.
Therefore, we would summarize most of the cons in several main aspects:
- People missed the old-style flavor of the Fira Montjuic with its fountains and architecture as the new venue has a more modern design – not that charming! After all, Barcelona is attractive because of its unique architecture.
- More spacious means more time navigating from one meeting to another (as meetings are the main goal of most of the attendees there). Some of the people we met actually had trouble orienting like never before and many of them missed some meetings!
- For most of us the actual transportation to the new place was a serious issue since the subway lines do not reach the new venue! So we had to use alternatives but even cabs and buses were not enough at all! Personally, we found this unacceptable regarding it is a world congress, in a rapidly-developing industry!
- Another serious challenge took place again among the most important requirements for such an event! The Internet connection as a whole was rather unstable! In fact, many attendees complained that they had paid serious fees to manage their own booths where they actually had trouble connecting to Internet!
It seems that it is not enough to attract more than 70 000 attendees to a mobile congress; you also have to manage to keep them interested, impressed, excited and satisfied even weeks after! A real challenge where GSMA actually failed – serious lack of organization when we talk about providing more space for more attendees!
What Mad-Adz and partners notice is that the best ones in the mobile industry actually already step back from the MWC and prefer presenting their fascinating new gadgets at own well-organized events around the world! This fact will change some tendencies and make us think what is actually worth investing so much time, energy and money!
However, if you have not managed to meet Mad-Adz in Barcelona, it is ok, we could always talk business and success in many other ways! Just contact us and ask your questions anytime! Mad-Adz.com
